Inspired by my Mom, a breast cancer survivor, we realized that the market is dominated by plain, utilitarian, and old fashioned lingerie. Market research uncovered a large opportunity to pursue. The intersection of the increasing rate of breast cancer diagnoses in the US coupled with the high percentage of women wearing the wrong bra size indicated that the intimates market was ready for a new product.
Defining and testing a unique feature set for the product
A quantitative and qualitative research framework with over 150 breast cancer survivors uncovered the core frictions and desires of our target customer. The research defined a preliminary set of features that evolved through iterative testing modules and ultimately resulted in 8 unique product features that would bring the most value to our target customer.
Designing a functional and beautiful form
The product development phased took over one year due to the intricacies inherent in designing a bra, sizing requirements, and the sourcing and manufacturing cycles. The ultimate goal of offering our customer the most comfortable, supportive and beautiful product shaped design principles that structured the process and influenced constant pivots.
Launching into the market with a multichannel e-commerce and brick and mortar strategy
We lauched the company Sophia Rose Intimates with an e-commerce and brick and mortar sales strategy to account for the desire for our customer to touch and feel the product and quickly grow brand presence throughout the US. We are currently stocked in boutiques in the US, Canada and Australia.
